Mar 7, 2017 · The Giant Gila Monster tries to put a twist on the usual monster flick by mixing creature feature and teen hot rod film. I think it would have fared better from either sticking to the formula, or coming up with an even more ridiculous plot… like Chase engaging in a drag race with the Gila monster in order to win the survival of his friends, perhaps.

Oct 5, 2019 · The Giant Gila Monster is a perfect slice of 1950s b-movie Americana, a strangely cohesive mish-mash of hot rod culture, Christian banjolele music, and lizards running amok on miniature sets. Directed by Ray Kellogg and released in 1959, it’s become something of a cult classic and its titular monster even cameoed in an episode of Godzilla: The Series in 1999.
