Imagine that in the close future, the postal service invents a new mail delivery system. And that the new computerized and holographic system gets tested out at Jon's. After all, Garfield is a real menace to the mail man. But imagine the system has a few teething problems, and Jon's papers get delivered a day early.
The episode starts off with a Twilight Zone-style opening known as the Garfield Zone. Jon is badly in debt with a ruthless, wealthy lawyer, who may sell the house. The scrooge's young son wants a puppy, so Garfield puts a price tag on Odie. Jon has no choice but hand over his dog, but Odie is so obviously homesick that the sweet boy decides to bring him back.
The postal service tests a new delivery system at Jon's house; Garfield sells Odie at a garage sale.
