  3. THE FIRST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST Today is the first Sunday in Lent, observed by many Christians through 40 days of solemn preparation for Easter. The forty days correspond to the time that Jesus spent alone in the desert without food, fasting, if you will, and being tempted by Satan.
