The Apology of Socrates (Greek: Ἀπολογία Σωκράτους, Apología Sokrátous; Latin: Apologia Socratis), written by Plato, is a Socratic dialogue of the speech of legal self-defence which Socrates (469–399 BC) spoke at his trial for impiety and corruption in 399 BC.
Summary. The Apology, or Socrates' Defence, pretends to be the speech, or rather speeches, that Socrates gave at his trial on a charge of ‘doing what is unjust by corrupting the young and not believing in gods the city believes in but other new divine entities’ (Apology 24 b 8– c 1).
