- The Original Clock. The original movie clock was operated from a huge control panel and, by flicking various switches, the animations could be controlled.
- My Initial Designs. When I first started this project my initial idea was to use an electro/mechanical system to control the various animations.
- Powered by Arduino. After a long rethink I eventually decided to power this project using an Arduino processor. In my new design an Arduino Mega 2560 is connected via its output pins to eight small servo motors.
- Designed With CAD. The main structure of the clock and all the internal components and mechanisms were designed with Sketchup. My design was based on photographs that I managed to find on the Internet of the original clock when it was being made.
- Print the Templates & Cut Out. Print. Using your home printer with A4 plain paper, print out the file 02-TEMPLATES.PDF in landscape format. This will print full sized templates for the clock components.
- Cut and Sand the Component Pieces. Scroll Saw & Sander. When your templates are all glued securely, cut out the component pieces carefully with the scroll saw (as close to the lines as possible) and then sand accurately to the lines.
- Assembly. Side Walls. Before you assemble the components remove the paper templates by dabbing them with a damp cloth. This will loosen the glue. Don’t use too much water as the MDF will soak it up.
- Make the Bits & Bobs. Most of the construction work is now complete but the clock has a few extra pieces that you will need to make from softwood.
