• Kota Ibushi had spent the past three years establishing himself as arguably the best Junior Heavyweight in the world. Three Title reigns in singles and another with the Tag titles. He’d even (spoiler) won the Junior Heavyweight Title a year earlier at Wrestle Kingdom. • Nakamura had established himself as even bigger than the World Title.

Great match, the one at WK9 is also a classic. I think the WK9 match really propelled Nakamura into the western wrestling consciousness, but the G1 match shown here might be better.
