Extant schoolhouses, in various states of disrepair, dot the landscape of rural Indiana. Often, because of the remaining above-ground components, these sites are ignored archaeolog-ically and assessed for their value as historic structures only. While this perspective is valuable, it may not always paint the whole picture of a schoolhouse site.
