    Svein and his brother Harald Harefoot are present when their mother meets with Olaf Haraldsson. Later, Svein and Harald sail to Kattegat with their grandfather, Sweyn Forkbeard.

    Svein is based on Svein Knutsson, the son of Cnut the Great and his first wife Ælfgifu of Northampton. In 1030 Cnut sent Ælfgifu and Svein as regents to rule Norway. Their rule was considered oppressive by the Norwegian because they imposed new taxes and harsh laws. They were expelled in 1034.
