Mark Kaufman explores how the book's ideas to utilise such natural objects as butterflies, moths and leaves, worked to mythologize British resourcefulness and promote a certain 'weaponization of the pastoral'.
I thought for a bit, and came up with a butterfly that Baden-Powell drew while he was in the army. This image is not only pretty, but has a historical connection (drawn by BP when he was a soldier, and showing some traditional Scouting skills) and a terrific story as well.
This is the story, very briefly told, of three remarkable people. Robert Baden-Powell started the Boy Scouts. His sister, Agnes, helped him organize a similar movement for girls, the Girl Guides. Olave spent her life, after her marriage to Robert, promoting Guiding and Scouting.
