Steven Browning Sample (November 29, 1940 – March 29, 2016) was the 10th president of the University of Southern California (USC). [1] He became president in 1991 and was succeeded by C. L. Max Nikias on August 3, 2010. [2]

Personal life and death. Samples was married to Grace Carrie Bolton (April 27, 1927 – July 9, 1983), and they had five children together. Grace occasionally used Bolden as her maiden name and it was an official alias in legal documents.
