May 12, 2016 · The Texas rebels of 1836 adhered to the Jeffersonian definition and, as Schlereth notes, began their revolt by both proclaiming their loyalty to their voluntarily chosen nation and rebelling. Also, he points out that the U.S. volunteers who joined the rebellion offered an example of voluntary allegiance.

May 19, 2023 · ABSTRACT. This article examines how Texan Revolutionaries portrayed the Texas Revolution as a struggle for modernity. In particular, numerous Anglo-Texans created a narrative in which they cast Santa Anna at the helm of a counter-enlightenment restoring Ancien Régime values.
