Staten Island. Staten Island (/ ˈstætən / STAT-ən) is the southernmost borough of New York City, coextensive with Richmond County and situated at the southernmost point of New York. The borough is separated from the adjacent state of New Jersey by the Arthur Kill and the Kill Van Kull and from the rest of New York by New York Bay.

On the water, near the ferry terminal, is the Staten Island September 11th Memorial. This memorial, called Postcards, was created in 2004 to commemorate the 274 Staten Island residents who were killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks and the 1993 WTC bombing.
