    • Rose Marie. One of the first stars to be known by her first name, the Dick Van Dyke Show actress died Dec. 28 in Van Nuys, Calif. at age 94. Earning three Emmy nominations for that sitcom, she also appeared on The Doris Day Show and was a 14-year staple on Hollywood Squares.
    • Della Reese. The singer and actress, who became a household name while starring as a divine supervisor named Tess on CBS' Touched by an Angel, died Nov.
    • Earle Hyman. The veteran actor best known for playing patriarch Russell Huxtable in The Cosby Show died Nov. 17 at age 91. Aside from his recurring role on The Cosby Show, he was known for his impressive stage career: He made his Broadway debut as a teen in 1944's Anna Lucasta, won a Tony in 1980 for his performance in The Lady From Dubuque, and starred in a number of acclaimed productions including Othello and A Raisin in the Sun.
    • Malcolm Young. The guitarist and founding member of AC/DC died in November at age 64 after a years-long battle with dementia. He and his brother Angus created AC/DC in 1973 in Australia, and he remained with the band until 2014, when he left due to health problems.
    • Emmanuelle Riva. There are so many high points in Emmanuelle Riva’s career that it can be easy to forget the actual number of roles she portrayed was quite small.
    • Sir Roger Moore. Was Roger Moore the best Bond? It’s debatable. This author thinks so. But how possibly could he compete with Sean Connery, who created the cinematic incarnation of 007?
    • Chuck Berry. Saying that Chuck Berry invented rock ‘n’ roll is like saying George Washington invented America. It’s not accurate, even if it feels right.
    • Fats Domino. Only Elvis Presley had more hits from 1955 to 1960 than Fats Domino: New Orleans ivory tickler and, like the King and Chuck Berry, a founding father of rock ‘n’ roll.
