St. Xavier’s College was the first Arts, Science and Commerce degree college, affiliated to the University of Mumbai, to be granted Autonomy by the University Grants Commission. Autonomy was granted by the Commission in May 2010 for a period of 6 years from the academic year 2010-11.
St. Xavier's College is a private, Catholic, autonomous higher education institution run by the Bombay Province of the Society of Jesus in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was founded by the Jesuits on 2 January 1869.
