St. Mark’s Basilica is open every day from 9:30 AM to 5:15 PM. On Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, the Basilica is open to visitors from 2 PM. The museum - Loggia dei Cavalli is open on Sundays from 9:30 AM to 2 PM. The Bell Tower is open daily from 9:30 AM to 9:15 PM. Visitors can enter the Basilica for free for prayer, mass, and services.
Constructed back in the 9th century, St. Mark’s Basilica was built to house the remains of Saint. Mark’s corpse that was smuggled in from Egypt by Venetian merchants. The building was initially torched to the ground and eventually rebuilt to become an extraordinary structure that is admired by the world to date.
