"And the Crowd Goes Wild" is the fourteenth episode of the second season and the thirty seventh episode of the series overall. It originally aired on February 8, 2000. The teleplay was written by Tom Szentgyorgyi and Aaron Sorkin from a story by Szentgyorgyi and directed by Alex Graves.
Jeremy and Natalie's breakup begins to impact the show after Jeremy asks for his stuff back. Casey is temporarily blinded from an eye test, and Dan takes the opportunity to play practical jokes on him. After a riot breaks out at Madison Square Garden, Natalie objects to the show turning over its film of the event to the police.
"And the Crowd Goes Wild" is an up-tempo song with country rap influences, that tells the story of typical low-down junkies and wannabes, such as a NASCAR junkie, and a honky-tonk singer, and how they soon "shine like a superstar."
