Jun 11, 2015 · ‘The Island Years’ is a welcome composite of Spooky Tooth’s extensive back catalogue. In an age when even one album bands are the subject of overblown acclaim, Spooky Tooth are a reminder of a unique band who featured two keyboard playing front men, Mike Harrison and Gary Wright.
Part of the early-’70s British hard rock scene, Spooky Tooth had a towering sound, highlighted by swelling keyboards and – in founding members Gary Wright and Mike Harrison – two full-throated blue-eyed soul singers, each a match for Island head boy Steve Winwood.
Spooky Tooth were one of Island Records' finest acts, yet never quite scaled the upper echelons of the late 60's / early 70's rock hierarchy. Always a band much loved by writers and fellow musicians, they lacked the commercial sucker punch that would've catapulted them to the toppermost of the poppermost.

The band released four albums on Island between 1968 and 1970 before their initial breakup. A reformed lineup of the band released three further albums during 1973 and 1974.

This version of the band lasted less than a year and dispersed. The second incarnation of Spooky Tooth (1973) consisted of Harrison, Wright, Mick Jones - lead guitar, vocals, Bryson Graham - drums, Chris Stewart - bass. Graham quit late 1973, replaced by Mike Kellie again.
