Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sotsu (ひぐらしのなく頃に卒, When the Cicadas Cry Graduation) is a 2021 Higurashi When They Cry anime project created by Passione and a sequel to Higurashi: When They Cry - GOU.
Funimation licensed it under the title Higurashi: When They Cry - SOTSU.
Ryukishi07 stated in an interview on March 23, 2021 that "Higurashi Sotsu is structured in a way that it tells the story of how the tragedy happened from Satoko's point of view. The game board rotates around, and the player changes from Rika to Satoko."
was first teased at the end of Gou's last episode along with a teaser trailer, later posted to Kadokawa's Youtube channel. The official anime account posted that Sotsu would begin airing in July, with Funimation putting out an English announcement. Funimation later tweeted a subtitled version of the trailer. The official anime website updated to reflect the new season.
An extended version of the trailer was showcased at AnimeJapan on March 26, 2021. It was uploaded to Kadokawa's Youtube channel on April 4, 2021. Funimation posted a subtitled version of the second PV on April 6, 2021.
On May 20, 2021, Kadokawa uploaded a new PV to their Youtube channel. Funimation uploaded a subtitled version and tweeted a new key visual. The trailer showcased the new opening theme Analogy, performed by Ayane.
On June 6, 2021, it was announced that the anime would begin airing on July 1, 2021, with two episodes airing back to back.
On June 17, 2021, the anime website updated with release dates for each Blu-Ray release of Sotsu. Four BD releases are planned, with the last one indicating that there will be 15 episodes total.
On June 20, 2021, a second PV was released, revealing the ending theme to be Missing Promise by Suzuki Konomi. Funimation tweeted out a subtitled version of the PV.
The season is being released as home media in four box sets in Japanese from November 26, 2021 to February 25, 2022.
