I will say if you shoot the wide when it’s cloudy and the sun comes out (or vice versa), there are ways to hide it in coverage with grip/electric gear. But sometimes you do sit around with 150+ crew for the weather to shift — if the scene really requires it.
You can use a red filter on an overcast day to get some definition out of the clouds, but don't expect the sort of dramatic results you get with blue skies. I can post an example if you'd like. You lose at least two stops of light with a red filter, so pair it with fast film if you want to shoot handheld.

May 8, 2020 · No no, I used to shoot weddings on film, so I don't even need a light meter. It's the film. For instance, if it's a cloudy day I usually shot at f5.6 1/60 of a sec with 200 ISO film. Now I expose it 3 stops more to get the proper exposure.
