Book summaries vs reading. A book summary gives the main thesis and necessary evidence without going into as much detail. Presumably on an ideas-per-hour-invested basis, summaries will win out over full books. You can quickly memorize and recollect the main idea and key points of the book.
Instead of going with main sources, you go by books that only summarize them which obviously is not the same as reading books. I'm not saying that you should not go and read summaries but rather they can help you gaining reading habit again.
I feel like no one finished reading your post, which actually makes the point that reading the book is better than just reading summaries. They read the first two paragraphs and then commented like you were legit asking why you should read a book when you can just read a summary.

Dec 6, 2016 · Presumably on an ideas-per-hour-invested basis, summaries will win out over full books. Nobody will read even a fraction of all books, possibly not even a sizeable percentage of truly great books. The marginal value of reading an extra book doesn’t diminish quickly.
