Dec 6, 2016 · I was having a conversation with a friend who likes to read book summaries. He’s not a big reader, but still wants the ideas from great books, so he goes out of his way to read the summaries of lots of books to get the gist of their main ideas.

A summary would never go int...
Summaries are an excellent way of gathering ideas and inspiration. A summary would a...
Aug 10, 2020 · When you put in the effort to summarize an entire book, you are building a bridge from your audience to a topic they’re unlikely to read about on their own. You are lowering the threshold for how much time someone needs to spend to access its ideas, from hours to minutes.
Book summaries vs books. With book summaries, you get second-hand information. You are reading the other person’s interpretation of the key ideas of the book and not the original way the author wrote or presented his or her ideas. The book summarizer decides what is important and what isn’t.

You're explicitly not reading the book, your reading a summary of someone else's summery of the book. It's never going to be as valuable because the whole point of reading books, nonfiction especially is to be able to learn the nuances the author is discussing which can't be done with a 5 minute summary from someone else's interpretation.
