It is still being sold in numerous locations for around $100 and has a company spec of 100 watts/channel and is one of the few receivers that has a phono input. I enjoyed the RX-4109 and eventually ended up owning three of them.

   Nov 30, 2006 · I had a sherwood 6095 receiver amp. for the budget end of the price range it was a great little amp. mine lasted 9 years before it blew up with a big purple flash. They have a few flat spots in the sound range but if you crank it up it seems to get a little better.

   • and sounds less congested if that makes any sense. The Sherwood is well worth restoring IMHO. I think you will find it comparable to the Fisher 400/500C or Scott 340 receivers. The coupling caps are usually still good, so you might have it functioning once the electrolytics are replaced, and any other components you find that might be out of spec.

   Is the Sherwood S8000 a good receiver?

   • The Sherwood is really tight under the hood, worse than my Fisher TA 600. How do the Sherwood S8000 receivers sound? They don't seem to be as popular as the other brands. Thanks for any feedback. I like my unrestored S8000 better than both of my restored Fishers. It seems to have much deeper bass and sounds less congested if that makes any sense.

   • They were (maybe still are) the UK exclusive distributor of Sherwood. They did start out selling some great kit and then seemed to concentrate on the bargain bucket end of the market. In the USA they still seem to be selling a range of stuff. anyhow, it had a fairly good build to it, reasonably nice styling for the era....

   Is the Sherwood S8000 worth the effort?

   • Agree with the comments above--the Sherwood S8000 is well worth the effort. I obtained a real 'fixer upper' a while back and spent a fair amount of time to bring it back and really enjoyed the sound of it (mine is an S8000 IV). One potential issue with the IV model is that it uses 6EU7 dual triodes instead of 12AX7's used in other S8000 variants.

   Sep 3, 2018 · I bought an unmolested Sherwood S8000 a few months ago. The receiver is in good cosmetic shape, is not working. One of the power supply caps has grenaded, dial string is broken, transformers are good. I'm hoping for advice from others who have restored one of these receivers. Is it worth the cost and time?
