Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers opened on October 13, 1989 at #2 and earned $5,093,428 to 1,495 theatres. It quickly fell from the box office with a scant $11,642,254 – the least successful Halloween film to date. The film went straight to video outside of North America.

Jun 18, 2020 · Shem Bitterman’s original draft of the script had had Jamie become evil after the previous instalment’s ending (an idea with which Pleasence agreed), but Akkad and 20th Century Fox alike vetoed the concept, by this time being sure that the focus should never shift away from Michael.
Apr 27, 2023 · Though Shem Bitterman receives credit for the final film, his first draft was completely thrown out for this film and none of his elements were used. Don Shanks also portrayed the Man in Black, as a precaution in case it was to be revealed that he was related to Michael.
Although it continues with characters created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill for the first two movies, the screenplay was written by Michael Jacobs, Dominique Othenin-Girard, and Shem Bitterman.
