Shell Island closes for the 2024 season on Monday 7th October. There are some 300 acres of land allocated to camping. This makes SHELL ISLAND the biggest camp site in the UK and the biggest camping site in Europe.

So whether you come for the day, or a weeks holiday, Shell Island offers everybody their own piece of paradise. Situated in North Wales with over 450 acres, of which 300 acres are available for camping, Shell Island has developed into one of the largest camping sites in Europe.
Actual times are safe times to cross over the causeway to Shell Island. A question mark (?) indicates caution is necessary as the tide indicated is borderline and can easily be affected by bad weather. Height of High tides are estimated hights over the sand bar at the entrance to Mochras Lagoon.
Shell Island has two chalets. One at the North end overlooking the Estuary, and Rhinog mountain range, and the other at the South end of the Island, overlooking the beach with marvelous views overlooking the whole Bay.
Day Visits. SHELL ISLAND IS NOW CLOSED TILL MARCH 28TH 2025. If you fancy visiting Shell Island, but don't want to camp, you still can. We open for day visits at 8am until 8pm (tide dependant), so you will have plenty of time to explore, enjoy and relax.
Arrivals and Departures - Campers on Shell Island must book in at reception on arrival before pitching. You may arrive anytime between 8.00am and 8.00pm (9.00pm on Fridays) no admittance will be given outside of these times.
Shell Island has three bathing beaches. Two small bathing beaches which are only available when the tide is out and the main bathing beach at the South end of the 'Island' which runs for 6 miles down to Barmouth. The South bathing beach is backed by some of the tallest sand dunes in Wales.
Shell Island has most of its' facilities centrally located in the middle of the Island behind the leisure complex. Our Main toilet block hold everything you need for the perfect family camping experience.
