Dec 22, 2023 · Similar to above tip you can convert your spare hardmode metal bars/ores like cobalt into more useful pre-hardmode ores like gold, gold is useful for making king slime summons to farm biome keys, spelunker potions, water candles etc. while palladium is only useful for builders post-mech.

Ores are primary crafting materials necessary for game progress. They generally must be crafted into bars at a Furnace, after which they can craft several essential tools, weapons, armor, and other items. Some items require raw ores themselves, most commonly bricks and potions.
Hardmode ores are restricted to certain layers: Cobalt / Palladium Ore can be found in all Underground layers; Mythril / Orichalcum Ore can be found in Cavern layers; Adamantite / Titanium Ore can only be found in the lower Cavern layer (which is where Lava replaces Water).

Nov 1, 2022 · If you go to the Shimmer page on the Official Terraria Wiki (not the dead Fandom Wiki) you will find at the beginning of the article that Shimmer “Transforms crafted items back into their crafting materials.” Metal bars are obviously crafted items so Shimmer will decraft them back into ore.

Adamantite and Titanium Ore should not be crafted into tools, as they do not unlock access to better ores. Do not jump down a large hole or cave without an extra jump, Umbrella, Featherfall Potion, Wings, or Lucky Horseshoe. If you do not have those, consider using Rope and platforms to safely descend.
