The BSA introduced a new badge of participation and identification on 26 Jan 2015: the Honor Guard badge. Similiar to the Musician badge, the Honor Guard badge recognizes those Scouts who are serving as members of a unit, district, or local Council Honor Guard.
Members wear a blue tie or the Group or other approved scarf and woggle. The Membership Badge and the appropriate County, District and Group name tape may be worn on the shirt selected by the band. Individual badges earned, emblems and awards may also be worn on the uniform selected by the band.
-- update 40 (Jan’20) Badge Links Made Easy. Leaders are always asking “How do the Activity Badges relate to the Top Awards?” This weeks PoP helps to answer that question by providing a set of downloadable charts linking each of the sectional Activity Badges with a Challenge Award.
- It’S Worn on The Right Sleeve (Not left).
- Honor Guard Members May Wear It at Any time.
- Honor Guard Does Not Count For Advancement purposes.
Unlike position patches (senior patrol leader, scribe, patrol leader, etc.), which are worn on the left sleeve, the Honor Guard patch goes on the right sleeve. It goes in one of two places, depending on which other patches the Scout is wearing: 1. A half-inch under the patrol emblem (aka “position 3”) OR 2. Right under (and touching) the Journey to...
Boy Scouts who are members of an Honor Guard may wear this patch at any time, even if they aren’t serving an Honor Guard role at that exact moment. In other words, there’s no need to remove this patch when attending a troop event that doesn’t require Honor Guard services. And because the patch goes on the right sleeve, a Boy Scout can wear his Hono...
As is the case with the Musician patch/role, serving in the Honor Guard doesn’t count as a position of responsibility needed for advancement. What does count? For Boy Scout troops, it’s: Patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, Venture patrol leader, troop guide, Order of the Arrow troop representative, den chief, scribe...
- Membership Award. When you make your Scout promise, you'll be given your Membership Award. It features a picture of the fleur de lis - an international symbol, worn by Scouts all over the world.
- Joining In Award. Joining In Awards are given to those who always roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. You can collect one for every year you're a Scout, starting from your very first day as a Beaver right up until your last meeting.
- Leadership stripes. Within their Troop, Scouts are part of a Patrol. A Patrol is a smaller group of Scouts, headed up by a Patrol Leader and an Assistant Patrol Leader.
- Moving On Award. Eventually, it'll be time to embrace your next adventure. Explorers awaits.
