Saruman's scouts were a group of Uruk-hai sent from Isengard to apprehend the One Ring and its bearer during the War of the Ring.
A moderate host of Uruk-hai were commanded to find and assail the Fellowship of the Ring, whom Saruman knew had exited Moria and pressed southward, and to bring the Ring to Isengard. However, not having instructed them to the specific ring-bearer, Saruman said merely to take "the halflings", alive. Therefore the Uruk-hai, who on February 26th, 3019, arrived at Parth Galen after Frodo Baggins had run away, kidnapped Merry and Pippin, and with them hastened back toward Isengard.
On their route they were met by reinforcements sent from Isengard, under the command of Mauhúr. They were, however, slowed by the lesser statured Grishnákh and his Orc patrol who had come from Mordor. In that week, the scouts and their reinforcements were ambushed by an éored of Rohirrim (led by Éomer) and killed in battle, next to Fangorn Forest.
In Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, these Uruk-hai are first led by Lurtz, who slays Boromir and is then killed by Aragorn. In the next film, Uglúk, another brutal Uruk whose role accords with the original story, had succeeded him as their captain.

Lurtz was the first leader of Saruman's scouts created specifically for Peter Jackson 's movie The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. He was portrayed by New Zealand actor Lawrence Makoare. He is non-canonical as he was created for the films, and is not in the books.
