The Scalefour Society caters for the needs of railway modellers working to the scale of 4mm/ft (1:76.2), the most popular of the British model railway scales. It promotes and encourages the use of effective modelling techniques and fine scale standards among all 4mm railway modellers with a particular emphasis on the use of scale wheels and track.
Society Origins. The Protofour concept was developed in the late 1960s and set out track and wheel standards as close in accuracy as practical to a true scale 4mm scale reproduction of the UK standard gauge prototype track.

From 5/8in track gauge, the figure became 16.5mm, while in America the bodies were scaled at 3.5mm/ft, and in Britain 4mm/ft was adopted. The American scale returned to Europe, where it was adopted by MOROP, the Continental standards body, in preference to Half 0, which would have been a proportion of 1:90 --- H0 proportion is 1:87.
