The Reverend Sanford was the 130th overall episode of Sanford and Son. Also the 19th episode of Season Six, it first aired on NBC-TV on February 11, 1977.
To avoid paying taxes, Fred buys a mail-order clergy ordination and transforms his home into the Chapel on the Junkpile for the church of the "Seventh-Day Junkists"!
To avoid paying taxes, Fred invests ten dollars in a "close cover before striking" divinity school headed by a clever con man. Inveigling Uncle Woodrow (Raymond Allen) and Bubba (Don Bexley) in his scheme, the "Reverend" Sanford sets up his own tax-exempt ministry, worshipping at the altar of the new religion known as "Junkism." Suffice it to say that the scheme heads down the same road paved with good intentions.
Note: Comedian Sammy Shore appears as Bishop Lovelace. Freeman King makes a guest appearance as LAPD Officer King, and Darrow Igus appears as Walter, a lawyer.
