At the time, the movie was very fun and moved quickly, and the ending served as a button to send us off into the world. But it felt like a bit of a cop-out: they hit the point where they had to own up to the time machine working or not, they chose for it to work, and ended the film.
Jun 13, 2012 · That’s not to say time travel takes place in “Safety Not Guaranteed.” Or that it doesn’t. A rather brilliant ending is completely satisfying while proving nothing. What it means is that the story takes place entirely at this time, and time travel provides the subject and not the gimmick.

I get you on the ending. I don't see how it took away the interesting things about his character though - all the suffering he probably went through as he tried to relate to people was still there, and I liked that he was vindicated - misunderstood not crazy.

Jul 29, 2022 · Considering the scientific part of the film, one can’t help but wonder if Kenneth previously traveled to the past or not. His ad says that he has only done it once before, and even when Darius tells him Belinda is alive, he claims that he saved Belinda by traveling to the past.
