Throughout his brilliant and itinerant career, Rudolf Nureyev (1938-1993) built a strong and fruitful relationship with the Paris Opera. It began in style as the Kirov Ballet, from Leningrad, went to Paris while touring in Europe, a tour during which Nureyev decided to defect to the West.
Based on the classic Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes, this ballet adaptation tells the story of the titular Don Quixote: a knight errant who travels across Spain in the pursuit of heroic adventures, accompanied as always by his faithful squire, Sancho Panza.
