Roland Pertwee. He was an English playwright, film and TV screenwriter, director and actor. He was the father of Dr. Who star Jon Pertwee and playwright Michael Pertwee. He was the uncle of actor Bill Pertwee and the grandfather of actors Sean and Dariel Pertwee.
Roland Pertwee (15 May 1885 [3] – 26 April 1963) [4] was an English playwright, film and television screenwriter, director and actor. He was the father of Doctor Who actor Jon Pertwee and playwright and screenwriter Michael Pertwee. [5] He was also the second cousin of actor Bill Pertwee and grandfather of actors Sean Pertwee and Dariel Pertwee.
When Roland Pertwee was born on 17 May 1885, in Brighton, East Sussex, England, United Kingdom, his father, Charles Ernest Pertwee, was 27 and his mother, Emily Moore, was 30. He married Avice Scholtz on 10 May 1911, in Chelsea, Middlesex, England.
Jon Pertwee (1919 – 1996) The original Huguenot family name, Perthuis de Laillevault was changed to Pertwee. Jon was born in London to Avice and Roland Pertwee, a respected actor and writer.
When Louise returned to her home in London, Jon followed her, and her father Cecil Spitzel secured Jon an acting job. Sadly, Louise was diagnosed with a virulent form of inoperable cancer and passed away.
