    Recall campaign

    In July 2012, some Alameda citizens began an effort to recall Bonta from his post on the Alameda City Council. The effort began after Bonta moved to approve an ordinance providing an override on Alameda's housing restriction charter law, known as Measure A.The recall effort came to an end in November 2012, when Bonta resigned his position as vice mayor of Alameda in order to take his seat in the California General Assembly.
