Book project Miele im Nationalsozialismus – Statement by Markus Miele and Reinhard Zinkann. Miele, the Gütersloh family company, manufactured ordnance for the Wehrmacht in the years before and during World War II and, in doing so, employed forced labourers and prisoners of war – this has been known for long time.
Reinhard Zinkann unveil the first Miele washing machine. This wooden tub, larger than the butter churn, features a turnstile that has to be manually operated using a lever.
In 1899, with 11 employees, four lathes and one drilling machine, the engineer Carl Miele and the businessman Reinhard Zinkann founded a company for the manufacture of cream separators in Herzebrock. Their guiding principle becomes the business philosophy: Immer besser.
The initial purpose of the company, which was founded by mason Carl Miele and merchant Reinhard Zinkann in the Westphalian town of Herzebrock in 1899, was the production of cream separators used in farms to separate cream from milk.
