In 1827 Rama III ordered the destruction of Ventiana. Faced with this threat Anouvong went up an army with the help of the Vietnamese and left to fight in Laos. But the Siamese were stronger and defeated. Anouvong tried to escape but was caught, imprisoned and died in 1829 in a prison in Bangkok.
