Against Time is the thirteenth episode, the second season finale, the series finale of Quantum Leap, and the thirty-first episode of the series overall. It aired on February 20, 2024.
Ben finds himself behind the wheel of a speeding stock car in 1976, but a terrifying threat from the future could sabotage the leap. Racing against the clock, Ben, Addison and the team risk everything to complete the mission and save Quantum Leap.
Ben leaps into a stock car racer conducting his time trial. He barely qualifies, upsetting his father, Rick Jarrett, Sr, who is also a stock car driver. Rick Sr. is clearly dealing with a health issue, but he refuses to abandon participating in the race the next day.
Gideon Ridge enters the imaging chamber, and introduces himself to Ben. He belittles Ben, tells him he's fired the entire team, and reveals himself as Jeffrey Nally, bitter about Ben's interference in his family. His father died in the car accident as a direct result of a fight with Hannah about Ben's letter. Gideon says he will use the swap code to swap with him and change the past to his liking.
Magic gathers the team, now ejected from the project. He's retrieved Janis from Hawaii, and they use her imaging chamber to participate in the leap. Beth is there for moral support as well. Janis explains they are helping because a leap from Sam Beckett is what allowed Al and Beth to have a family at all.
Ben learns that Hannah lives only 20 minutes away from the racetrack. He tries calling, but Jeffrey answers and hangs up. Addison finally arrives and explains how poorly things are going in the present. Addison and Ben take the stock car to find Hannah and Jeffrey, to stop Gideon in the present. But he has only 42 minutes before Rick Sr.'s heart attack.
Ian finds out that Jeffrey is 24 hours from winning a computer fair that starts him on his tech career. Ben and Addison plan to destroy the computer he built to set him back. Gideon can see the conversation and sends a team to find the other imaging chamber. Janis worries that sabotaging Jeffrey may mean that Ian doesn't have the quantum chip to find Ben, and they will all be erased. Magic sees no choice but to take the risk.
Jenn breaks into the Project using Tom Westphal's badge and disables both the elevators and the accelerator. Gideon's guards murder Jenn just as she finishes locking down the accelerator, buying Ben just a little more time. Addison and Ben hear that Jenn is dead. Faced with possible erasure of their existence, Addison and Ben tearfully apologize for the pain they've caused each other.
