The American Band is a community band based in Providence, Rhode Island. It was founded as a military band in 1837 by Joseph C. Greene. During its early years, the members were the highest paid in the country - even higher than the New York Philharmonic in its first season.
The American Band is a symphonic concert band comprised of over 50 adult musicians from Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts. Our repertoire is both versatile and traditional with works ranging from classical to popular, marches and operatic overtures to modern works for band.
Jul 3, 2024 · The Chinese Stars is an American noise rock band from Providence, Rhode Island. The band was formed in 2003 with several of the members from Arab on Radar, which had disbanded in 2002. The band released their first album, Turbo Mattress, in 2003 through Skin Graft Records.
