Development
February 22, 2021, it was announced that ABC ordered a pilot for a family drama titled Promised Land, which was previously titled American Heritage for Matt Lopez, the series' writer and executive producer. On April 20, 2021, Michael Cuesta was confirmed as the director of the pilot episode and executive producer of the drama alongside Adam Kolbrenner of Lit Entertainment Group and Maggie Malina. On August 11, 2021, it was announced that ABC has given Promised Landa series order.

In March 2021, Christina Ochoa and Mariel Molino joined the series in a leading role. Plot. In 1755, Captain Ludvig Kahlen, an impoverished Danish officer of humble birth, retires after 25 years of service in the German Army with a measly pension. He obtains permission from the Royal Danish Court to build a property on the barren Jutland moorland for land cultivation.
