A cartouche is an oval frame which surrounds the hieroglyphs that make up the name of an Egyptian God or royal person. Our illustrated example is based on the cartouche of Tutankhamun. A cartouche represents a looped rope which has the magical power to protect the name that is written inside it.
The template is easy to download and ready to print. The template encourages your students to create their own cartouche - an oval plaque that usually represents the name of a Pharaoh in hieroglyphics. The resource comes with a cartouche template and a set of hieroglyphics to cut and stick.

In this activity, the students can spell out their names in hieroglyphics in the style of a cartouche, then 3D print their personalised cartouche. This project is also suitable for introducing students to the TinkerCAD interface by allowing them to create their own 3D design from a template of parts.
Download the cartouche template below and open in Microsoft Word. Copy and paste the symbols vertically that represent your name from this website into Word. Use the symbols in color.
