My initial comments notwithstanding, it's easy to see why The Price of Glory has been so well regarded over the years. It is very well written, Horne's descriptions of the battle are, frankly, stunning, and part of this may have been due to the fact that at the time it was written, he would have had access to veterans of the Battle of Verdun.
