Pearl Thompson (born Paul Stephen Thompson; [1] 8 November 1957) is an English musician and artist. Thompson is best known as a member of the English alternative rock band The Cure from 1983–1993 and 2005–2011, during which he was credited as Porl Thompson and played mainly guitar with occasional keyboards and saxophone.
Immediately after the tour ended, guitarist Porl Thompson left the band again (this time with a smile!), and The Cure headlined the XFM 'Great Xpectations' Show in London's Finsbury Park as a quartet.
To general amazement, lead guitarist Porl Thompson admitted he knew the song from playing in a cabaret band. Unfortunately, he couldn’t remember how to play the whole thing. Thus, Easy Cure opened their second set with the first verse and chorus of Tie A Yellow Ribbon, repeated ad nauseam.
