Filmmaker Pola Rapaport tells the story of a surprising discovery in her own family. More than 25 years after the death of her father, a Romanian-born doctor practicing in the United States, she received a letter from a stranger in Bucharest "looking for a trace of Dr. Ionel Rapaport family."
In this feature documentary, filmmaker Pola Rapaport and cinematographer Wolfgang Held intimately document this charismatic, audacious, and powerfully vulnerable athlete during the turbulent and triumphant moments of her final years.
The story reveals her despair in 1980’s Romania, as the country fell into an abyss of debt and poverty, and follows Nadia through her dramatic defection to the US in 1989, just before the fall of Romanian dictators Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu. 56 minutes, color.
