Oederan is situated 14 km southwest of Freiberg, 17 km east of Chemnitz and about 50 km west of Dresden. The town includes the villages of Börnichen, Breitenau, Frankenstein , Gahlenz, Görbersdorf, Kirchbach, Lößnitztal and Schönerstadt.
