Finding inspiration in the clapboard houses of California, Stonehenge and English formal gardens, Stevens imbued each seemingly disparate subject with a unique sense of mood and mystery. The Arnolfini, Leeds Art Gallery and the Tate all staged exhibitions of his prints during the 1970s.
Biography. Norman Stevens ARA (b. Bradford, Yorkshire, UK 1937 - d. 1988) attended Bradford Art College alongside David Hockney, John Loker and David Oxtoby and then, went to the Royal College of Art, London in 1957 where he was awarded the Lloyd Landscape and Abbey Minor Travelling scholarships.
His work is found in many public collections, including the Bradford Museums and Galleries Collection, The Tate Gallery, The Arts Council, The V&A, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Musee d’Art et d’Histoire in Geneva.
Norman Stevens ARA. Described in The Times as “one of the most distinguished and particular painters and printmakers of his generation”, Norman Stevens attended the local art college in Bradford alongside David Hockney, John Loker and David Oxtoby.
