He is currently the chairman of the Foundation for Endangered Languages, and lives in Hungerford, England. In 2013, he wrote the foreword for Navlipi, the publication of a universal script that deals with phonemic idiosyncrasies inherent in all the world's languages.
Linguist Nicholas Ostler is chair of the Foundation for Endangered Languages, a nonprofit organization that supports the use of endangered languages in the communities where they are found. He is also the author of Empires of the Word: A Language History of the World, which in part studies the factors that determine how a language survives.
