Dame Edith Ngaio Marsh DBE (/ ˈ n aɪ oʊ / NY-oh; 23 April 1895 – 18 February 1982) was a New Zealand mystery writer and theatre director. She was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1966.
Clutch of Constables is a detective novel by Ngaio Marsh; it is the twenty-fifth novel to feature Roderick Alleyn, and was first published in 1968.

During the Golden Age of British detective fiction — circa the 1920s and ’30s — Dame Ngaio Marsh was dubbed one of the ‘Queens of Crime,’ along with Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Margery Allingham.
Her home in Christchurch is preserved as a museum. In 1975, the Mystery Writers of America gave her the Grand Master Award for lifetime achievement. The Ngaio Marsh Award is given out every year for the best in New Zealand crime fiction. And on April 23, 2015, she was honored with—a Google Doodle.
