Sep 16, 2021 · What does the Film Commission do? We are a government agency that invests in New Zealand feature films and short films. We aim to contribute production financing to between ten and 12 feature films each year.

Our budget is made up of Government funding, Lottery Grants Board funding, income from films, interest and reserves. Anticipated revenue for 2023/2024 is around $31 million. To find out more about how we use our budget, you can read our Annual Reports in the Resource Library.
Our Board provides governance and policy direction. Funding decisions are made by an eight-member board representing the film industry and the wider business and arts community, and are based on recommendations from staff.
We produce publications including Annual Reports, Statements of Intent and Statements of Performance Expectations can be found in the Resource Library.
The New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC; Māori: Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga) is a New Zealand government agency formed to assist with creating and promoting New Zealand films. It was established under the New Zealand Film Commission Act 1978 (as amended in 1981, 1985, 1988, 1994 and 1999).
The New Zealand Film Commission is a crown entity which helps grow and support our country’s vibrant film industry.
