It has been headquartered at Sony Pictures Studios (formerly MGM Studios and the former Lorimar's studios) in Culver City, California since 1993. Columbia Pictures was originally founded on June 19, 1918 as Cohn-Brandt-Cohn Film Sales by Harry Cohn, his brother Jack, and Jack's friend Joe Brandt.

An opening version of this logo features the New World globe slowly rising out of the ocean and then the company name fading in. The music used in this version was the full New World Pictures logo music. On Valley of the Dolls, the logo simply says "NEW WORLD".
