One of Neal's girlfriends committed suicide, while another wound up in a madhouse. Cassady even remained intimate with his first wife, LuAnne, into the late 50s. In addition to introducing Kerouac to a stream-of-consciousness prose style, Cassady was instrumental in getting Kerouac on the road.
