The second season of Nate Is Late was announced on June 30, 2020. It was commissioned by France Télévisions, Super RTL, and Canal J, and cofinanced by the CNC, SOFITVCINE 7, and Pictanovo with a budget of US$8 million (€7.4 million). The season was entirely produced by Watch Next Media and its La Factorie studios in Paris and Lille, with additional animation work done at Inspidea in Malaysia. It was directed by Jérémy Guiter and Édouard Kuchiman, and consists of 52 11-minute episodes.

The season was originally planned to premiere in early 2021, but was delayed for unknown reasons. It eventually made its worldwide premiere on RTS 1 in Switzerland on August 27, 2021, before officially debuting on France 4 on November 8, 2021; on Super RTL on August 29, 2022; and on Canal J on May 10, 2023.

•The show's art style changed slightly starting with this season. The characters no longer have shading under their heads, shadows are only drawn in certain scenes, all character outlines now have a consistent width, and the characters are more expressive.
